A 2007 Transmission Planning Study Update reaffirmed the recommendations from
the 1970’s Study for a full transmission loop around Idaho Falls. As a result, the
study confirmed the need for design and construction of a North 161kV
Transmission Line that would complete the transmission loop and enable IFP to
reliably deliver electric power to its customers. The North 161kV would consist of
new transmission facilities North of IF connecting the Westside Substation with the
Sugarmill Substation creating a 161kV Loop around the City. This project will enable
IFP to continue to deliver on its mission to provide safe, reliable, high quality
electric power to its customers while keeping costs among the lowest in the region.
Investigations continue on several key issues to finalize specific segment alignments of the preferred route. To view the latest route map, click here.
